As you can see in the photo, this was the view from above looking down on Richard Brandon stuck in the narrow chimney. From below, a lone foot dangled above logs in the fireplace.
Police say Brandon and his accomplice, Derek Grenfell, were trying to break in to the house just before 2 a.m.
And when Brandon became trapped, Grenfell led deputies to his friend.
It took firefighters an hour and half to hoist Brandon out the chimney.
The homeowner, Mike Whitley, flew to Naples from his other home in Kentucky when he got the call from police.
"I thought it was a joke, I think I probably said to them 'is this a joke?'. And it wasn't."
He says he's glad the "Bad Santa" didn't get away with any of his valuables.
Both suspects are in jail on burglary charges.
